Jammu, September 23
The J&K Accountability Commission yesterday ordered an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of crores of rupees by certain functionaries of the Projects Construction Corporation during renovation of the state guest house at Delhi and other four works.

The order for the inquiry was passed by Mr Justice R.P. Sethi, chairman of the commission, on the basis of a complaint filed by Narinder Singh.

The commission observed that a prima-facie case was made out for holding preliminary inquiry against those involved in the misappropriation of public money.

The commission ordered the Managing Director of the corporation to seize the record pertaining to these projects and had asked Mr A.S. Wazir, a former chief engineer, to probe into the allegations made by the complainant and submit his report within one month.

The concerned officers have been directed to assist Mr Wazir in conducting the probe.

The commission observed that it was prime-facie established that several lakhs of rupees had been misused during the renovation of the Kashmir House at Delhi and a few crore of rupees were doled out to private consultancy firms.

The state has been put to a huge loss in construction of the Jalandhar-Mukerian rail track as the corporation failed to complete it. Funds were also alleged to have been misappropriated on account of acrylic surface plaster of the track. The corporation has also been accused of having made illegal appointments and promotions.

The militants shot dead a girl, Mehbooba, in her Kulgam house in south Kashmir district of Anantnag last night. The militants attacked a security force search party at Dhara Morha in Poonch district of Jammu. Security forces retaliated but the militants managed to escape.
