The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Punjab Government and its various authorities on a petition by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, which virtually has brought the panel in direct confrontation with the judiciary for allegedly interfering in the cases still pending trial in courts.

The Supreme Court today directed the Punjab and Haryana High Court to dispose of a case pertaining to the Punjab liquor auction dispute as early as possible. The case pertained to the alleged prevention of a vendor from taking part in last year’s re-auction.
