Two held for rape on train

Deogarh (Jharkhand), September 14
The police today arrested a ticket examiner and a vendor and was looking out for three others, who allegedly raped a teenager in a running train, after recording the victim’s statement and lodging an FIR.

The girl who was found in a semi-conscious condition yesterday in the Delhi-Howrah Toofan Express said in her complaint that two travelling ticket examiners (TTEs) and three other persons had raped her, Government Reserve Police (GRP) sources said here.

The FIR would be registered at Jhajha in Bihar as the girl had boarded the train from there, the sources said.

The FIR could not be lodged yesterday as she was inconsistent in her statements due to her semi-conscious state. Last night the girl had said she hailed from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh while today she said she was from Kolkata, they said.

TTE Dhirendra Upadhya and a vendor were arrested while the police was searching for three others — another TTE and two vendors — in connection with the case.

As per the victim’s statement, the incident occurred between Jhajha and Madhupur stations when she was travelling alone in a first class coach.

Finding her in a semi-conscious state, a GRP man took her to GRP police station in Madhupur, from where she was shifted to a hospital. — PTI
