Consumers get back ‘bribes’ paid to PSEB officials

The Ludhiana district unit of the Zamhuri Kissan Sabha disbursed around Rs 40,000 among farmers of the area. The amount had been received from former employees of the Punjab State Electricity Board, Narangwal, which they had taken from the consumers allegedly as bribe for completing certain jobs.

Plea to cut taxes on petrol, diesel

The Ludhiana Citizens’ Council has made a fervent plea for reducing taxes on petrol and diesel to provide relief to the common people. The council pointed out that even though it had become imperative for the government to hike the fuel prices, yet the taxation burden of 140 and 54 per cent on petrol and diesel, respectively, was totally unjustified and need to be rationalised.

The Dehlon police has arrested a truck driver of Gujjarwal village and seized a substantial quantity of poppy husk, a countrymade pistol and cartridges from him.

40 kg of poppy husk seized
Jagraon, September 11
The police has arrested Gurjit Singh of Gujjarwal and seized a .315 bore
country-made pistol along with two cartridges from his possession. The police also seized 40 kg of poppy husk from him. Cases under Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act and 15-61-85 of the NDPS Act have been registered.

15 PCS officers meet PAU Vice-Chancellor

Fifteen newly appointed PCS officers (Executive Branch), attending a training course at the PAU, on Friday held a meeting with Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Addressing the officers, Dr Aulakh gave the history of the PAU and highlighted the role of this university in ushering the Green Revolution.
