Heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds lashed the city for many hours today, throwing normal life out of gear and inundating the entire city, exposing the unpreparedness of the city for the monsoon season. Worsening the matters was the drizzle that continued throughout the day.

BJP workers burn Aiyar’s effigy

Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today staged a demonstration against the hike in the petrol and diesel prices. They also burnt an effigy of the Petroleum Minister, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, blaming him for the frequent hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Tibetans earn 65 pc income from woollen trading
Ludhiana, September 9
Though the primary occupation of Tibetans in exile, settled in India, is agriculture, over 65 per cent of their income comes from trading in woollens that they procure from Ludhiana.

A leading jewellery store today launched its Maharaja Collection, a diamond jewellery aimed at style, glamour and elegance. Hospital staff, chemists trade charges
Ludhiana, September 9
While the Brown Memorial Hospital (Christian Medical College and Hospital) Employees Union has alleged that more than 200 life saving drugs were not available at the hospital pharmacy and patients were forced to purchase the prescribed drugs from outside at much higher prices, the Wholesale Chemists Association here has charged the CMCH management with not releasing the payments, running into several crores, for supply of medicines for quite some time now.

Dogra stops shifting of ESI dispensary

Reacting to stories published in the Tribune and a request by the management of a local mill, Mr Ramesh Chand Dogra, Health Minister, Punjab, has directed the authorities not to shift the ESIC dispensary from the local town to Machhiwara as decided earlier.
