Armed men wreak havoc in Panchkula
Bus torched, private vehicles damaged as Haryana bandh evokes mixed response
Panchkula, September 2
Tremors of the Gohana incident were felt in the township this morning when unruly mobs brandishing swords and lathis, wreaked havoc on the roads. A bus full of passengers was torched, with the passengers barely being able to get down to safety. Scores of other government and private vehicles were damaged by the arsonists, though no loss of life was reported.

Indo-Pak CBMs for starting truck service for trade

Setting the stage for the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pervez Musharraf in New York on September 14, India and Pakistan today announced a slew of measures to promote people-to-people contacts, including starting a truck service for trade on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route.

Concerned over the rising international crude oil prices touching $ 70 per barrel and its impact on Indian oil companies, the government is likely to give a go-ahead to the hike in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre and LPG by Rs 20 per cylinder next week.

Goa to be permanent venue for film fests
New Delhi, September 2
An MoU has been signed between the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) and the Goa Government to make Goa the permanent venue for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Making Goa a permanent venue for the IFFI is expected to help in branding the festival globally and promoting Goa as a tourist destination.
