Pattabhiraman to be Army Vice-Chief

Lt-Gen S Pattabhiraman, at present the Western Army Commander, will take over as the new Vice-Chief of Army Staff on October 1 following the retirement of Lt-Gen B.S. Thakur later in the month.

Along with the appointment of the new Vice-chief of Army Staff the Government today also announced some other appointments in the force with Lt-Gen Deepak Kapoor, at present Army Commander at the Training Command, Shimla being posted as Northern Army Commander. He will assume his new appointment by September 5 and replaces Lt Gen Hari Prasad who retired from service yesterday.

Commissioned in Regiment of Artillery in June 1967, he is an alumunus of National Defence College and Defence Services Staff College. He was appointed as the Army Commander of the Training Command in April, 2005.

The Government also approved the promotion of Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh, at present GOC of a Corps in the North East, as Army Commander. He will take over as the Army Commander, Western Army, with effect from October 1 and will replace Lt-Gen Pattabhiraman.

Lt-Gen Daljeet, an Armoured Corps Officer was commissioned into 8th Light Cavalry. He is an alumunus of National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.

Lt-Gen KS Jamwal, at present Chief of Staff, Army Training Command, Shimla will take over as the Army Commander of the Training Command.
