Tribune News Service and UNI

Ferozepore/Amritsar, July 11
Twenty persons were feared drowned when a boat ferrying them capsized in the Sutlej at Dhera Dhara village in Ferozepure district this evening, official reports said. The bodies of two women had been recovered, the Taran Taran police district chief, Mr P.S. Grewal, said.

The victims were returning from the Mand area where they used to go for farming daily.

The boat was carrying about 25 persons and four of them reportedly swam to safety.

The Ferozepore Deputy Commissioner and police chief have reached the spot and launched rescue operations with the help of police and BSF personnel. Army divers have been called to retrieve the survivers and the bodies.

The administration had also ordered to stop the flow of the water by arranging a bundh.
