Murder most foul: Man buries step son alive in pit
Faridabad, June 29 It is reported that Hukam Singh had been upset with his stepson because his marriage had failed twice and because his wife Chitra used to ‘favour’ him in matters of family income and property. As per available details, Hukam Singh and Rajesh had been digging a pit for construction of an underground water tank in their house December last. One day, while Rajesh was inside the six-feet-deep pit, his stepfather dumped several gunny bags of soil into it and buried him alive. He later got the cover of the pit built with concrete. When Chitra asked Hukam Singh about her son’s whereabouts, she was told that he might had gone somewhere, but she grew suspicious over the months and reported the matter to the police recently. The police got a breakthrough when Hukam Singh broke down during sustained interrogation and confessed the truth. The police has arrested him and sent the exhumed body for a post-mortem. Meanwhile, in another case, the police have recovered the body of a person identified as Ajiz, a resident of Ghaziabad, from near a dental college across the Agra canal. It is suspected that he had been murdered as he had been strangulated and his head crushed. |

Boy’s rescue a warning for future kidnappers
Ghaziabad, June 29 The police force of six states had coordinated as a well-oiled machine for 15 days and only then Vaibhav, young son of a Mumbai-based stock broker Ramdev Agarwal was rescued from the clutches of his kidnappers. While it is a fit occasion for the police force to rejoice, the case also sounds a danger bell for those involved in kidnapping for ransom. The case was solved largely on the basis of interception of 16-odd phone calls made to Vaibhav’s father in Mumbai from various towns of Haryana, west UP, and Uttaranchal. This pattern was studied by SSP, STF, Lucknow Nikhil Kumar who
was in touch with IG Ajit Singh of Rajasthan Police and IGP, Meerut, Vipin Sharma. Nikhil Kumar studied the language and accent of each call made to Agarwal, and this is also how the police became aware of ransom negotiations between him and the kidnappers. The kidnapper is a Ghaziabad Development Authority contractor Rahul Tyagi who belongs to a well to do family. His wife is a Captain in Indian Army. |
Honda employees, management stand-off continues at Manesar
Gurgaon, June 29 “The administration would not hesitate to impose Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, which bars the assembly of five or more than five persons, in IMT if the workers continue to show aggressive behaviour,” said Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Sudhir Rajpal. As per the spokesperson of HMSI, the company has suffered a financial loss of more than Rs. 100 crore following the labour unrest in the plant which started last month. On June 28, just 450 scooters were manufactured at the plant, compared to the production capacity of 2000 scooters per day. The production of the scooters has went down following the strike by more than 2500 workers (line associates). Following the instructions from Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Deputy Commissioner Sudhir Rajpal took the initiative and persuaded the management and the workers to reach an agreement last week. However, yesterday, the workers refused to sign the ‘undertaking’ and went to strike again, demanding the restoration of services of all dismissed and suspended workers. Things got heated and the police had to be called to check for acts of sabotage etc. During the strike, the management had dismissed 4 workers and suspended 25 workers, revealed spokesperson of the company. The management has taken the stand that except dismissed and suspended workers, all remaining workers can join their duty. The District Labour Commissioner (DLC) would decide the fate of the dismissed and suspended workers as per the law, added the spokesperson. He further informed that HMSI had raised the salaries of all line associates by 30 per cent making it amongst the best salaries in the surrounding industries. In the meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner has allowed the management to recruit new staff to continue production in the plant. Today, more than 55 new workers were recruited from the nearby villages. The plant has also been provided the police protection to check any untoward incident, added Mr Sudhir Rajpal. Suresh Gaur, president of Honda Motorcycle & Scooters Employee Union said that the managament should first restore the services of all suspended and dismissed workers, only then the agitating workers would join the duty. He alleged that the workers were dismissed and suspended on one pretext or another to make way for the recruitment of fresh unemployed youth of their interest. |
Deadlock on setting up de-addiction centres at juvenile observation homes
New Delhi, June 29 The Magistrate had given the direction on May 2 after the mother of a minor boy addicted to smack, facing trial in a theft case, told the court that his addiction had worsened after his stay at a Juvenile Observation Home for 6 months since there were no reformatory facilities there. “Nothing can be more unfortunate. The basic function of the department is to work for welfare of the children, women and weaker sections. Bureaucratic approach on such issues will only hamper effective rehabilitation of the juveniles,” said Juvenile Justice Board Principle Magistrate Santosh Snehi Mann. Responding to the directive, the Social Welfare Department, through its Joint Director Rashmi Singh submitted that “setting up of de-addiction centres has to be an administrative decision based on proper assessment, which has to be approved by the Planning and Finance Departments”. Further today, the department instead of taking steps to comply with the directive, told the court that “if our position is not acceptable to the Board, we may be given an opportunity to file appeal against the order”. The court said the measure was urgent as the number of cases where juveniles commit thefts because of their increasing addiction to drugs were rising. Observing that de-addiction centres set up inside the Tihar jail for adult offenders has proved ‘very effective’, the court said “de-addiction of juveniles is the first step for their rehabilitation without which no fruitful purpose would be served”. |

Some new industrial clusters may be regularised
New Delhi, June 29 “We are in touch with the Association in such areas so that the laid down norms could be fulfilled and some common facilities like effluent treatment plants could be set up, before such clusters could be regularised,” he added. Talking about Supreme Court’s order on shifting out polluting industries from non-confirming areas, the minister said besides opposing and seeking more time for doing the same, the state government was doing its best for helping such industries shift to confirming areas. He also said that new industrial estates had been developed with all infrastructure in peripherial areas, like the one at Bawana in north Delhi, for settling the displaced units. However, Mr Singhal added, henceforth it would be difficult to allow more industries in Delhi. “The stress would develop the Capital into a business hub with industries in national capital region towns around.” The minister also re-assured the gathering that the state government was doing its best to improve the power and water situation. |

City school de-recognised
New Delhi, June 29 “The teacher who is currently on deputation to another schools is also an elected member of the Gurdwara Committee. And while the DSGMC kept mulling on the issue, the Principal in the meantime got the letter de-recognising the school. “We are hopeful that the decision will be reversed and since the DSGMC President and our Chairman are pursuing the matter the result will be in the best interest of the school”, added Minhas. |

She said talks on land acquisition were already on with Haryana in this connection. The Chief Minister said though introduction of CNG had been a major success for Delhi, research and development work on other technologies like solar energy and electric buses had to be encouraged.
