Malerkotla
MEDICAL CAMP: A medical check-up camp was organised by the Bar Association, Malerkotla, at the court complex here on Sunday. According to Mohd Ayaz, secretary of the Bar, Justice M.M. Kumar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court inaugurated the camp. A team of doctors from the Hero DMC Heart Institute and Dayanand Hospital, Ludhiana, examined the patients. Medicines were distributed free of cost to the needy.

Student taken ill
: Six students of Nursing College at Atholi village fell ill after taking meal at the college mess here on Sunday. Anup Kaur, Rajpreet Kaur, Navjeet Kaur, Gurpreet Kaur and Pardeep Kaur, who felt giddiness after the meal, were brought to the Civil Hospital. Doctors attending on them said they were out of danger.

Strike:
The Panchkula Safai Karamcharis Association has threatened to go on strike from June 16 in protest against the delayed payment of salaries and non-payment of government rates of daily wages to them. A delegation of safai karamcharis, led by Zile Singh, met the City Magistrate on Monday, and gave her a representation in this regard.

Appointed: Ms Neeru Khattar has been appointed Chairman of the Inner Wheel Club, District 308, for the year 2005-06. She was appointed Chairman at a function held at Panipat.

Rewari
ARRESTED: A hardcore gangster, Sanjay, a resident of Khuddan village in Jhajjar district, was apprehended by the CIA staff, Rewari, from a field near Guriani ki Dhani village, about 20 km from here on Sunday. The police also seized a pistol and three live cartridges from him.
Dr C.S. Rao, SP, said that during interrogation, he revealed that he, along with his other accomplice, Naresh of Salhawas village in Jhajjar district, had snatched at pistol point, from its driver a Maruti car, which they had hired from Bawal on Saturday evening.

KILLED: A young housewife, Manju, of Gopalpur village, who was admitted to the PGIMS at Rohtak for treatment on Friday last, succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday. According to a report, she sustained serious burn injuries when a kerosene lamp fell on her when she was asleep.

LIQUOR VEND LOCKED: Angry residents, headed by woman Sarpanch Pushpa Devi, locked a liquor shop at Barona village, about 15 km from here, on Monday to press for the acceptance of the demand for the closure of the liquor vend. According to a report, the residents held a demonstration and raised slogans against the government. The police assured the shifting of this liquor vend.

THEFT: The police has registered a case of theft against the driver of NCP, MLA Sukhbir Farmana and two others and also seized the MLA’s jeep which the driver had left in Bhatgaon village while fleeing. According to a complaint lodged by Lal Chand of the village, the MLA’s driver Ravinder alias Binder along with two accomplices entered his house on Sunday night and took away Rs 40,0000 in cash and golden ornaments from the box of his wife. When Lal Chand raised the alarm, the three escaped.

HIMACHAL PRADESH

TARGETS : District officials on Sunday claimed that they had achieved most of the targets fixed for the district under the 20-point Programme last year. Chairing the review meeting of the 20-point programme here, IPH Minister Thakur Kaul Singh said under the SGSY programme, a credit of Rs 3.29 crore was provided to 2180 families.

Sundernagar
IMPOUNDED : The staff of the forest range office, Pangna, headed by Mr Chander Sheel, Range Officer, Pangna, impounded a DCM Toyota at the forest checkpost, Jaach, about 70 km from here, which was carrying 14 sleepers of deodar. The driver of the vehicle, Jai Singh, a resident of Sihan, was arrested and a case under Sections 32, 33, 41, 42, 52A of the Indian Forest Act was registered against him.
