Jhalawar sizzles at 46°C

Heat wave conditions are prevailing in some parts of east Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, likely to abate during the next two days.

Rainfall: Rain/thundershowers have occurred at a few places in west Rajasthan and at isolated places in east Rajasthan. Weather was mainly dry in the rest of the region.

Temperature: Past 24 hours change: The maximum temperatures rose apreciably in Uttaranchal, rose in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and changed little elsewhere.

Departure: This was markedly above normal in east Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal, appreciably above normal in east Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh, above normal in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, below normal in Jammu and Kashmir and normal in the rest of the region. The highest maximum temperature in the region was 46°C recorded at Jhalawar (Rajasthan).

Forecast valid until the morning of June 14: Rain/thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Utaranchal. Isolated dustorm/thunderstorm is likely in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of June 14: Mainly clear sky with dust haze. Duststorm/thunderstorm accompanied with squall is likely in some areas. The maximum temperature will be around 42°C.

Farmers’ weather bulletin for Delhi: 

Forecast valid until the morning of June 14: Duststorm/thunderstorm is likley at a few places. Squall with wind speed exceeding 65km p h is likely at isolated places.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: No large change.

Mercury drops in region

Chandigarh, June 12
People in north-west India experienced some relief from the sizzling heat as there was a slight drop in the mercury in the region today.
Hisar in Haryana continued to remain the hottest place with the mercury hovering at 41.4°C down by two degrees since yesterday.

The temperature dropped by one to two degrees below normal in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Hisar, where the mercury stayed one degree below normal, was the hottest place in Haryana, followed by Ambala recording 39.4°C and Karnal 38°C.

Ludhiana was hottest at 40°C in Punjab as hot weather conditions prevailed in the state. The temperature dropped to 38°C from 40.6 degrees at Amritsar. In Patiala the temperature dropped to 39°C from 40 degrees yesterday.

Several areas in Himachal Pradesh showed drop in the temperature. Shimla recorded 26°C today, a drop of 3.3 degrees since yesterday.

People in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas also had some relief with the mercury dropping to 39.2°C after touching 41.8°C yesterday.

The weather office has forecast rain or thundershower at a few places in Himachal Pradesh and duststorm or thunderstorm at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours. — UNI
