Chandigarh, June 7
A one-member commission, headed by a retired Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Jai Singh Sekhon, will look into the Punjab PMT paper-leak case.
Sources in the Punjab Government said Justice Sekhon was today asked by the Faridkot-based Baba Farid University of Health Sciences to fix responsibility and submit a report as early as possible.
The university was responsible for conducting the entrance examination for admission to various medical colleges in the state. The test was conducted on Sunday and the results were declared the same evening. But the examination was cancelled on Monday evening after a report regarding the leak of the question paper was carried in these columns.
The sources added that a detailed complaint was also handed over to Faridkot’s SSP this morning for the registration of an FIR.
The university Vice-Chancellor, Dr J S Gujral, when contacted, said the fresh date of examination would be notified within the next two or three days.
Giving details, he said more than 10,070 applications were initially received by the university. Out of the total, an estimated 9.800 students took the entrance examination.
For their convenience, 41 centres were set up all over the state. The examination at each centre was conducted under the supervision of a university representative. In all, more than 200 officers were involved in the process of conducting the examination.
He said no stone would be left unturned to prevent the leak of question papers. The state’s Medical Education and Research Minister,
Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, was appreciative of the fact that the examination had been cancelled in wake of the leak, he added.
All 88 questions faxed to The Tribune a day before the examination were part of the question paper given to students in Amritsar, Faridkot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau will also look into the paper-leak case. A decision in this regard was taken by Ms Bhattal.
A government spokesman said Ms Bhattal also directed the Secretary, Medical Education, to ensure that the PMT was reconducted at the earliest.
