Child’s death: District Attorney was drunk, says report
Ludhiana, June 7
The controversy surrounding the death of a 4-year-old girl, who had died in a road accident in September last, has taken a new turn with the report of Chemical Examiner to Government of Punjab stating that District Attorney, prime accused in the case, was under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.

PAU students boycott exams
Ludhiana, June 7
Students of Punjab Agricultural University today boycotted their exams and staged a demonstration in front of the examination hall of the College of Agriculture in protest against the charging of boarding fee from the students in case they wanted to stay during the summer vacations. The students held a meeting with the PAU authorities but they did not appear to be satisfied as, they claimed, they did not get any assurance.

BKU faction wants SYL issue on hold

The Bhartiya Kisan Union-Ekta (Ugrahan) faction today suggested that the issue of the SYL canal should be put in cold storage as it was unnecessarily creating bitterness between the farmers of the two states.

Vigilance inquiry ordered against ex-Principal
Ludhiana, June 7
A Special Judge of the Prevention of Corruption Act court here has ordered a high-level vigilance inquiry into the alleged misutilisation of the government funds and public money of Guru Har Gobind Khalsa College in Gurusar, Sudhar town.

Minor raped, accused absconds
Khanna, June 7
A minor girl was raped by a neighbour in Dhilwan village on Sunday. The police has registered a case against the accused at Sadar police station, Samrala.

Inquiry into sale deed transferred to ADC
Ludhiana, June 7
Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma has transferred the enquiry into alleged malpractices in the registration of a sale deed of a prime land at Phullanwal village to Additional Deputy Commissioner Ajmer Singh. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner had asked SDM M.S. Jaggi to look into the complaint and Mr Jaggi had already started the enquiry.

Farmer killed in freak accident
Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 7
Amrik Singh, a farmer of Mohi village in Ludhiana district, is shocked over the death of his young son who went to his field in the morning to repair an electric motor at tubewell, but the family received his body as he died due to a sudden fall of bricks on his head when he was working.

Exam cancellation: students feel cheated
Khanna, June 7
The students who had passed the PMT exams conducted by Baba Farid University are disappointed over the decision of cancellation of the exams. The exams were taken for the admission of medical courses like MBBS and BDS on Sunday. But the reports published by The Tribune about the leakage of the question papers forced university authorities to take action and the Vice-Chancellor of the university recommended the cancellation of the exams.

PAU starts admissions for 2005-06
Ludhiana, June 7
Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, has started admission process to various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for 2005-06. The last date for receipt of applications was May 23, 2005, but was extended to June 6, 2005 for B. Sc Agri (Hons), B V Sc and A H And M V Sc programmes after the decision to make admissions for B V Sc and A H and M V Sc programmes also by the PAU.
