Haryana SGPC seeks apology from Hooda
Tribune News Service

Hisar, June 4
The Haryana unit of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken a exception to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s statement in which he had reportedly advocated the formation of a separate gurdwara committee for Haryana.

“Mr Hooda should concentrate on running his government in Haryana and refrain from interfering the religious affairs of the Sikhs,” said Mr Joginder Singh Aharwan, president of the Haryana unit of the SGPC, while addressing a press conference here today.

During a recent visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Mr Hooda had stated that there should be a separate SGPC for Haryana. Mr Aharwan asked him to apologise to the Sikhs for hurting their sentiments. He warned that if Mr Hooda failed to do so, they would intensify their agitation against him.

“While the SGPC is demanding the management of the gurdwaras in Pakistan, it is ridiculous that a separate body should be sought for Haryana,” he remarked.

In response to a question, Mr Aharwan condemned the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, for opposing the move to raise a memorial to the victims of Operation Bluestar. “He (Capt Amarinder Singh) is the same person who had once resigned from the Congress and joined the Akali Dal to register his protest against Operation Bluestar,” he quipped.

Mr Aharwan stated that the SGPC was managing the affairs of seven gurdwaras in Haryana. Besides, they would set up schools at Sirsa and Kaithal and Miri Piri Medical College in Ambala.

He said former Punjab Chief Minister and Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur and other Sikh leaders would visit Hisar on June 8 to lay the foundation stone of Guru Nanak Bhavan here.
