Punjab policemen booked for assault in Panchkula

The local police has booked some Punjab police officials on charges of assault and criminal intimidation. Confrontation between ministries on EPF

Even though Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed the authorities concerned at the Centre to pay 9.5 per cent rate of interest to 4 crore subscribers of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) in the country for the financial year 2004-05, a confrontation has started between the Union Finance Ministry and the Union Labour Ministry on this issue.

A golden surprise for Sector 21 resident

The non-teaching employees of Panjab University held a rally-cum-demonstration before the Syndicate meeting in the administration block here today. The employees were protesting against the item of “No work” no pay for the employees who take part in agitation during office hours.

Panjab University has once again hesitated to take a stand on the crucial issues as no final decision on two main proposals — not allowing students to hold agitations within 200 metres of Vice Chancellor’s office and “no work, no pay” for the agitating employees — has been taken at the Syndicate meeting today. Two separate committees will decide on these issues.
