Duped
: Ms Shikha S. K. Rewari, daughter of Mr S. K. Rewari, a resident of Nangal road, Garhshankar, has alleged that she gave Rs 4 lakh to Mohan Singh and his son, Sanjiv Singh of Harman, for sending her to Australia in December, 2002. But they neither sent her nor returned the money. A case was registered.

Looted: Three scooter-borne youths allegedly looted Rs 41,500 and one mobile phone from Mr Jang Bahadur, Secretary, Cooperative Agriculture Society, at Purhiran here on Wednesday. The Sadar police has registered a case.

urged: Comrade Gurmesh Singh, District Secretary of the CPM, urged the Punjab Government to withdraw its decision regarding termination SPOs’ services in the state. In a press note issued here on Thursday he said these SPOs were recruited during militancy period and 180 SPOs sacrificed their lives during that period.

ELECTROCUTED: Gurbachan Singh, an employee of the PSEB, was electrocuted when he was removing a fault in the power supply at Nainowal Jattan village on Wednesday evening, according to police sources here on Thursday.

Arrested:
The city police has arrested a travel agent on charges of duping Manjeet Kaur, a resident of Booh village, of Rs 7 lakh. His police remand has been extended till May 19. Manjeet Kaur had on November 6,2004, complained to the police that Charanjeet Singh, a travel agent based in Delhi and resident of Uccha village, failed to arrange the immigration of her son-in-law even after taking Rs 7 lakh from her. A case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and 24 of the Immigration Act was registered.

Dharna:
Residents of Namun village on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of the SDM’s office to protest against the use loudspeakers and crackers during marriage ceremonies organised at Venice Resort here. Col S.S. Mankotia, a resident of the village, alleged that despite repeated complaints no action had been taken against the resort owner.

Medical camp:
A medical check-up camp was organised by the local Elite Jaycees and Gautam Hospital and Maternity Home at Chachrari village here on Wednesday. A team led by Dr Mamta Gautam examined 150 patients on the occasion.

Punjabi Academy:
The Rajasthan Government would set up a “Punjabi Academy” in Rajasthan. This was stated by the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat National Organisational General Secretary, Mr Avinash Jaiswal, on Wednesday. He said the Rajasthan Government had also agreed to appoint Punjabi teachers in this connection.

grants Distributed
: Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Wednesday gave nod to lying of underground pipes by the Soil Conservation Department at Adampur and Bakhora Kalan villages in her Lehragaga Assembly constituency. She also distributed development grants worth Rs 28 lakh among 12 villages of her Assembly constituency.

BOOKED: A man of Kaliyana village has been booked for forcibly entering a house and attempting to tease a girl. The accused has not been arrested so far. Ishwar Chand, complaint, alleged that Pradeep of Kaliyana village forcibly entered his house and tried to tease his daughter. When he raised an alarm the accused fled. The police has registered a case in this connection.

Charkhi Dadri
THEFT: The police has registered a case against five truck drivers for violating prohibitory orders and transporting crushed stones from mines. The drivers have been identified as Thandi Ram, Sunil, Rajender, Dara Singh and Satyawan. The case was registered on a complaint of the Mines Department.

ROAD MISHAP: Driver P.K. Munir died and six other occupants were injured when their Qualis vehicle dashed against a tree after its tyre burst on National Highway 8 near Saban Chowk, about 20 km from here, on Wednesday. The pilgrims, who belong to Malapuram district of Kerala, were returning to Kerala after visiting the durgah of Sufi Saint Khwaja Mionuddin Chishti at Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Distributed: The Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday distributed cheques for Rs 5,100 each among 27 beneficiaries under the “Kanyadaan Yojna”. The beneficiaries, who belong to below poverty line families, were given this financial assistance for getting heir daughters married.

KILLED: Mr Mahinder Saini (40), a cyclist, was killed when he was hit by a truck on the GT Road, near Haldana border, about 25 km from here, on Thursday. The victim belonged to Chulkana village and the police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination. A case against the truck driver has been registered.

ARRESTED: The Baroda police claimed to have arrested a youth, Vikas, alias Kala, of Banwasa village in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl of the same village. According to a report, the youth had taken away the girl to a field on Friday last where he raped and murdered her. After the incident, he also tried to commit suicide by taking celphos tablets, but was hospitalised. He was discharged from the PGIMS, Rohtak, on Wednesday.

DROWNED: A youth, Jatinder of Tharu Uldepur village, was drowned in the Western Yamuna Canal at Kilorad village, about 5 km from here, on Thursday. Villagers summoned divers from the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, for taking out the body from the canal but they failed in their attempts.

Elected: Kamla Bhawar of ward No.1 and Rita Tyagi of ward No. 20 were unanimously elected chairman and vice-chairman of the local Zila Parishad on Wednesday. Ms Bhawar’s name was proposed by Kamla Murthal of ward No. 17 and seconded by Anil of ward No.2. Ms Tyagi’s name was proposed by Surja Nana of ward No.19 and seconded by Prem Kumar of ward No.12.

Arrested: The Muzaffarnagar police on Tuesday arrested three persons, who were travelling in a car, near Baroli village. Two of them had allegedly snatched Rs 20,000 after assaulting their friend in Uttar Pradesh. In another incident Kharkhauda police arrested Vijay Chauhan, Sudhir, Anup Gathwal, Jaswant,Amarjit and Nirpal for snatching a car from Ajay. The Bahalgarh police arrested Manoj of Palri village for possessing a motor cycle which was stolen from G.T. Road near Roop Oil petrol station at the Bahalgarh Chowk.
