Captain pays tributes to martyrs
Promises more grants to memorial

Ferozepore, March 23
The Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, today said that the efforts of his government to foster goodwill, confidence and friendship between the Punjabs of India and Pakistan would strengthen the peace process.

The Chief Minister was here to participate in the Shahidi conference organised at the National Martyrs Memorial, Hussainiwala, to pay tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

He said PUDA had spent Rs 3 crore to spruce up the memorial and more grants would be given to add more facilities.

He also inaugurated the Shan-e-Hind gate constructed at a cost of Rs 86.76 lakh near the zero line at the Indo-Pakistan joint checkpost Hussainiwala.

The Chief Minister also paid floral tributes at the samadhi of the three martyrs and unveiled the life-size statues of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Announcing sops for residents of the border district of Ferozepore, he assured a grant of Rs 40 crore for the re-lining of the eastern canal and another Rs 50 crore for the improvement and maintenance of connecting drains, canals and distributaries.

He also sanctioned a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the renovation of the Saragarhi and the Anglo Sikh War Memorials.

He said the pending compensation of Rs 33 crore due to farmers who had land-holdings across the fencing along the Indo-Pakistan international border would be released soon. The compensation of Rs 6 crore to farmers who were injured in land mines blasts would also be released soon.
