1 dead, 5 hurt in bomb blast

Srinagar, March 23
A civilian was killed and five others, including three security personnel, got injured in an explosion targeted at an Army convoy here this afternoon, while security forces recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during searches in Kashmir since yesterday.

The police here said militants detonated an IED at Sanat Nagar bypass road, causing the death of a civilian and injuries to three security forces personnel and two civilians. Two vehicles were also damaged due to the explosion which took place at 2-15 p.m. The civilian killed in the explosion was identified as Mohammad Akbar Hajam, an employee at the nearby Electric Receiving Station.

According to sources, the explosion was caused by a car bomb

The security forces recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition during search operations in Baramulla and Kupwara districts of north Kashmir, the police said.

The recoveries included one Pika gun, one UMG, two AK 47 rifles, two Chinese pistols and four Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL).

The explosive devices recovered included 22 Anti Tank Rifles, 14 IED remote control switches, 36 Chinese hand grenades and 54 electric detonators. The ammunition included 1000 rounds of Pika, 1189 rounds of UMG, one box with 124 rounds, 76 rounds of pistol ammunitions, six rounds of RPG and 143 RPGs.
