Doctor pushes family to suicide Rajdhana (Amritsar), January 16 Three suicide notes found from the scene pointed finger at an RMP (registered medical practitioner) of the village, whom they alleged had pushed them into flesh trade, compelling them to take this extreme step. It is believed that the couple — Naresh Kumar (35) and Manju (30) — first administered poison to son Rinku (14) and daughter Shalloo (9) before committing suicide themselves. However, the youngest son, Amolak, did not consume the poisonous substance and went to bed after taking a banana. Foul smell emanated from the house after the incident was reported today. Ms Vibhu Raj, district police chief, Majitha, said the RMP, Ranjit Singh Rana, was at large. A case under Sections 306 and 376 of Indian Penal Code has been registered against him at Mehta Chowk police station. The couple also scribbled on the wall of the house, levelling serious charges against Dr Rana. One of the suicide notes pleaded their innocence and sought forgiveness from the near and dear ones. It said Dr Rana had been “blackmailing” the family for a long time. The doctor first pushed Naresh Kumar, who ran a grocery shop in the village, into flesh trade and later wanted to sexually exploit his wife. This is the second such tragedy to have struck in the district in a short period. Earlier, Hardip Singh and four members of his family committed suicide in a similar fashion in Amritsar. The investigation has been marked to the SP (Detective). A high alert has been sounded in the district to nab the doctor. |
