Leader of CPI (ML-Liberation) killed

Hazaribagh, January 16
In the first incident of poll-related violence in Jharkhand, veteran CPI (ML-Liberation) leader Mahendra Prasad Singh was today gunned down by suspected CPI (Maoist) ultras near Saria in Giridih district.

The ultras fired at Singh, a three-time MLA from Bagodar constituency, when he was addressing an election meeting, the police said.

Singh, who won from Bagodar in 1990, 1995 and 2000, filed nomination papers yesterday for the same seat, where elections would be held in the first phase of elections on February 3. — PTI
