As more and more bodies are being swept ashore, the death toll due to Sunday’s tsunami waves is rising fast along the south-eastern coast and the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Loans on liberal terms for Tsunami victims
New Delhi, December 28
The Centre today decided to extend loans on liberal terms to people, including fishermen, in the states and union territories hit by tsunami waves and asked insurance companies to quickly settle their claims for boats and other equipment.

Tsunami toll 59,000, likely to rise
Colombo, December 28
Nations on the Indian Ocean from Indonesia to Sri Lanka searched amongst the wreckage of a devastating Tsunami for bodies to bury today as fears grew the toll would exceed the 29,000 now reported killed.

National Security Adviser J.N. Dixit today said the nuclear power plant in Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu was safe and there was no threat of radiation in the wake of the Tsunami disaster.

16 Territorial Army jawans killed  in Tripura

In one of the biggest militant strikes in recent years in Tripura, the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura guerillas mowed down 17 people, including 16 Territorial Army jawans, and shot at two others at Dangabari in South Tripura District today.

CSD owes Rs 298 cr to suppliers

The Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of the Indian Armed Forces is one such organisation of the Services, which owes over Rs 295 crore to its suppliers and is seeking more budgetary allocation to clear the backlog.
