City to get continuous power supply
Admin to pay extra for excess power
Chandigarh, December 27
City residents can heave a sigh of relief as the proposed rotational power cuts in the city will not be imposed for the time being. The Chandigarh Administration today decided to pay fines to buy power at higher rates and postpone the decision on cuts.

Tsunami waves: HCS officer has providential escape

The Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) and the Enforcement Magistrate of Chandigarh, Mr S.K. Setia, and his family have had a providential escape. Mr Setia was on a holiday to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands which were struck by the tsunami waves yesterday.

Rise in daylight burglaries

Mohali, December 27
Even as Mohali residents spent a fearful year with daylight burglars having a free run, the one event that put Mohali on the international crime map was the sensational confession of Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, the main suspect in the rape and murder of British schoolgirl Hannah Foster. He had absconded from Britain after allegedly committing the crime on March 14, 2003. He allegedly spent 10 days with his family at Mohali from March 18 to 28.

The police today arrested Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Phase 11, on charges of assaulting a widow, Amarpreet Kaur, living nearby. Sandeep Kumar is the son of an influential local woman leader.
