Terror strikes Saudi Arabia
Attack on US consulate leaves three assailants,
4 guards dead

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, December 6
Muslim militants stormed the heavily fortified US consulate in here today before security forces shot dead three of them and captured two. An Interior Ministry official said in a statement on Saudi television that security forces had regained control.

Two months after the Centre decided to scrap the Phukan Commission of Inquiry probing into the Tehelka expose, the CBI today registered bribery cases against former BJP president Bangaru Laxman and former Samata Party president Jaya Jaitley.

Supreme Court stays demolition of Forest Hill
New Delhi, December 6
The Supreme Court today stayed the demolition of the constructions in Forest Hill Resort and Country Club near Chandigarh ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, but restrained its owners from making any commercial use of it.

Another farmer dead; tension mounts in Sriganganagar

One more person was killed today while curfew was clamped in a fourth border town as tension mounted in violence-hit north-west Rajasthan, rocked by a farmers’ agitation for canal waters for over two months now.

The Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Binod Kumar Roy, has taken a serious objection to the proposed appointment of Justice N.K. Kapoor, a former Judge of the High Court, as the next Lok Ayukta of Haryana, according to reliable sources.
