POTA repealed, Oppn stages walkout

New Delhi, December 6
The Lok Sabha today repealed POTA with the BJP-led Opposition walking out in protest, but differences within the ruling UPA also came to the fore as the House witnessed the Left’s strong reservations over the adoption of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill, 2004.

Ruling UPA supporter Samajwadi Party also backed the Left demand that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill be taken up only after clearance by the Standing Committee.

The Left, which supported the Prevention of Terrorism (Repeal) Bill, 2004, however, repeatedly urged the government to let the Standing Committee first study the second Bill before putting it to vote in the House. — UNI
