Former Karnataka Chief Minister S. M. Krishna has been appointed the new Governor of Maharashtra in place of Mohammad Fazal, whose tenure ended yesterday.
“On expiry of the term of the office of Mr Mohammad Fazal as Governor of Maharashtra, the President of India has been pleased to appoint Mr S. M. Krishna to be the Governor of Maharashtra with effect from the date he assumed charge of his office,” a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said here today.
Mr Krishna, is the second former Chief Minister of the Congress to be made Governor. Sushil Kumar Shinde of Maharashtra was recently made the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
The former Karnataka Chief Minister had unsuccessfully led the Congress in the state Assembly polls held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.
