  Overhead water tank put to use after 27 years

An innovative designer
A young Kasauli based designer, Sonali Purewal has come up with her innovative designs in clothes and other accessories. She doesn’ t carry any formal training in designing but was always fond of creating something new. She kept on experimenting on various things and finally came with her collection’ Zen space’ which is on show at Art Folio, Sector 9.

Ramayana scene enacted at Sukhna

THE “religious potential” of the Sukhna was harnessed on Tuesday with the enacting of a scene from the Ramayana. The sequence was the “kewat” taking Lord Rama, Sita and Laxman across the Saryu river. Attired in saffron clothes, the artistes became the centre of attraction.

New surgery for cancer of food pipe

Chandigarh, October 19
Fortis Hospital, Mohali, today claimed to have successfully cured a patient by three-field dissection (TFD) for squamous (skin like) cell carcinoma of the esophagus (cancer of food pipe). Dr Navin C. Raina, Senior Consultant, General Surgery, Fortis Hospital, is the first to undertake such a radical operation in the private healthcare sector in Northern India. The esophagus (gullet) is the tube through which food and drink pass from the back of the stomach. The cancer of esophagus arises from the lining of the gullet and the effect is to narrow the esophagus and cause difficulty in swallowing. First, solid foods tend to lodge or stick in the gullet and after some time liquids are also not able to pass through it.

Filing of IT returns to go online

Many of the income tax services for the tax payers shall be available online from end of this month, informed Mr Sanjai Kumar Verma, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (CO) at a presentation on initiatives of the Income Tax Department on the second day of the International Workshop on developing strategic framework for e-governance being held at CII today.

Flyover to cost Rs 10 crore
