Jammu, October 16
Suresh Kumar Anand, stamp vendor, was killed in a shootout by a police security official (PSO) in the district courts complex here today.

Anand died on the spot as the bullet pierced through his head. Another person received bullet injuries in his arm.

The PSO, Mohammad Sayeed, was thereafter badly beaten by an irate mob and he has been admitted to the medical college hospital in a serious condition.

There were conflicting versions about the shootout. While some eyewitnesses claimed that the PSO had shot Mr Anand point blank, the police claimed that the gun went off accidentally.

It was also being alleged that the PSO fired at the stamp vendor when he refused to oblige him out of turn by giving him some papers.

The District Bar Association has announced to strike work till Wednesday and has urged the authorities to provide adequate security in the court complex.

The SSP, Dr Kamal Saini, and other police officers rushed to the spot on receiving reports of the incident.
