Non-performers to be taken to task: Hanspal

In an open warning to Congress workers, Mr H.S. Hanspal, president, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, today said that all those who fail to discharge their duties well and campaign actively in the Kapurthala byelection may be taken to task.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, today wished speedy recovery to Mr Pervaiz Elahi, Chief Minister of West Punjab (Pakistan), who had a successful heart bypass surgery recently, Capt Amarinder Singh said that he hoped Mr Elahi would soon resume his official duties.

Court do not hear arguments in Badal case

In a major setback to the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, a Special Court, Ropar, today did not hear the arguments on framing of charges against Parkash Singh Badal, his wife Surinder Kaur Badal and Sukhbir Badal in a case disproportionate assets case registered against them, while taking note of serious allegations of cheating and fraud leveled against the prosecuting agency by the defence during the four-hour-long proceedings.

Board files petition to become party in PIL

The Punjab Pollution Control Board today informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it has filed an application in the Delhi High Court for becoming a party to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for use of fly ash in the manufacture of bricks.

BT cotton may be introduced in Punjab next year
Bathinda, September 28
The Centre may give its nod for the cultivation of BT cotton in North India, including Punjab, from the next crop season. Giving an indication to this effect, Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh of the PAU, said the results of various field trials in connection with the cultivation of BT cotton was encouraging and environment-friendly.

Man murdered by wife, paramour
Amritsar, September 28
Ms Kanwaljit Kaur, a resident of Ajnala allegedly murdered her husband, Mr Jaspal Singh, with the help of her paramour and his friends as he objected to her ‘illicit relations.’ The Ajnala police has arrested two persons in this regard while two others, including Kanwaljit, are absconding.

4 arrested with opium, smack
