Hooch claims 10 lives

Jaipur, September 9
Ten persons were killed and 25 battling for their lives in hospital today after consuming spurious liquor at Rampura village bordering Haryana in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

District Collector Dinesh Kumar said the victims had purchased the illicit brew on Janmashtami, falling on Tuesday. The deaths occurred yesterday and today.

Twenty-five persons affected with symptoms of failing eyesight and vomitting were admitted to hospitals. Of these, ten were admitted to the Bhiwadi Referral Hospital, seven to the Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi and the rest to hospitals in Alwar.

Three persons had been arrested.

An ex gratia grant of Rs 10,000 each had been announced from the Chief Minister's relief fund for the kin of those killed. — UNI
