Speaker meets President

New Delhi, June 5
Newly elected Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today called on President A P J Abdul Kalam and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Mr Chatterjee first went to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and later drove down to the Vice-President’s house. The meeting with the President lasted for about 25 minutes.

During the meetings, described as “courtesy calls,” Mr Chatterjee exchanged pleasantries with the President and the Vice-President.

Mr Chatterjee is understood to have discussed with them conduct of House proceedings.
