Mirwaiz’s cousin shot at Srinagar, May 29 A senior police officer said that unidentified militants hurled a hand grenade towards the Nigeen house of Maulvi Omar at around 4 pm today. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded inside the compound, damaging windowpanes, he said, adding no one was injured in the attack. Maulvi Omar was not present in the house at the time of the attack, official sources said. Maulvi Omar was part of the HC delegation which held two rounds of talks with then Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani on the Kashmir issue in New Delhi despite opposition by a number of separatist organisations. The attack on his house came barely few hours after militants fired at Maulvi Mushtaq, a cousin of Maulvi Omar, when he was offering mid-day prayers in a mosque near Mirwaiz Manzil at around 2 pm. He suffered three bullet wounds and was rushed to hospital. Pro-Pakistan militant outfit Al-Umar Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the incident. A person claiming to be the outfit’s spokesman called up a local news agency and said Mushtaq was targeted by the activists of the organisation for his anti-movement activities. Meanwhile, militants gunned down three members of a family and wounded three others in Badgam —
