LUDHIANA
FREE COACHING: The admission guidance cell set up recently at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Model Town, Ludhiana for guiding students to get admission in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses, is also starting free coaching classes for the entrance test from Monday. The training sessions will include numerical ability, logical reasoning, general English, general knowledge, personality development, group discussion and interview sessions.

SUMMER CAMP: The Indo-British Institute of Arts and Fitness will organise a summer camp for imparting training in salsa, jazz, hip-hop, party dance, aerobics, yoga, and magic tricks at Footloose from May 24. Amit Verma, a known choreographer, and Vinay Verma, a trainer in aerobics, will hold this camp.

MANDI AHMEDGARH
DEAD: Mr Bhajan Singh, alias Bhola (44), who was injured while repairing a water pump in the well, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital at Ludhiana. Bhola has descended in a well at his farms and was hurt when the water pump being lowered struck him. He was shifted to a private hospital at Ludhiana were he succumbed to his injuries.

HONOURED: The Mehak Cultural Forum felicital the Director-General of Police, Dr A.A. Siddiqui, at a function held here on Saturday. Dr Siddiqui was honoured for his contribution towards the setting up of the Sufi Foundation of India in particular and for promoting cultural activities in general.

NOMINATED: Prof. R.C. Verma, Director, Planning and Monitoring, Punjabi University, here has been nominated the president of the Regional Council of Indian Association of Physics Teachers. Dr Verma, who is the Head of the Physics Department, is a pioneer in introducing the subject of Computer Simulation in Physics.

TALK: A talk on the changing face of education was organised by the Rashtriya Metri Parishad at Anuwrat Bhavan on Sunday. Muni Shri Vinay Kumar Alok presented a discourse. Prof Paramjeet Singh, Registrar of Examination, Panjab University, was the chief guest. Other important invitees included Dr Bansali from PGI, Prof A.R. Sethi and Prof Jayprakash from PU. The talk initiated with a bhajan by Ms Shivani, a young follower of Mahavira.

FANCY DRESS: Tiny tots of Ashiana Nursery School participated in a fancy dress contest held on the occasion of World Blood Donation Day on Saturday. Mrs Shobha Verma, wife of Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Justice O.P. Verma (retd), was the chief guest. Mrs Verma said there was a need to make blood donation a movement. Inayat Sodhi, Rishad Sharda and Sayna Sood (all of LKG) Simran, Diwang, Suhana, Parth Bawa and Kudrat (all of UKG) Geetansh Bajaj of Class I and Simran Chaudhary of Class II were selected as finalists. 

ANNIVERSARY: The sixth anniversary of Lord Khatu Shyam was celebrated here on Sunday with traditional fervour by Shri Khatu Shyam Prachar Mandal on the premises of Old Hanuman Temple, Sector-32. The traditional lamp was lit by Mr Shankar Aggarwal of Mumbai and President of Shri Khatu Shyam Prachar Mandal, Mr Jagdish Aggarwal. A colourful holi was held and 56 types of prashad were prepared.

Smile Institute: The first-day celebration party of the Smile Institute of Aviation and Hotel Management was a big draw at the institute’s discotheque in the Industrial Area here on Sunday. According to Mr Suraj Chopra, Director, Shally and Mukesh were adjudged as the best dancing couple and Rekha best woman dancer.

Meeting: Mr M.S. Kaushal and Mr Chander Mohan were unanimously elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the House Owners Welfare Association, Sector 4, on Sunday, according to Mr Brij Mohan Sharma, secretary.

Hailed: Mr S.K. Nayar, president of the Citizens’ Welfare Association on Sunday hailed the elevation of the Ambala MP, Ms Selja, as the Cabinet Minister by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
