Joint Director of Petroleum Ministry held

New Delhi, May 22
The CBI has arrested a senior officer of the Petroleum Ministry for allegedly demanding bribe from a Naphta importer.

Mr Udai Shankar, posted as Joint Director with the Anti- Adulteration Cell of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas was arrested last night.

The CBI also arrested the importer S.K. Gupta, alleged conduit in the transaction Sanjeev Kumar, and his driver Naveen Jain in this connection.

They were produced before a special court today and remanded to three days’ police custody with the agency claiming that there was an inter-state racket involved in adulteration of Naphta.

Shankar, CBI alleged, had asked Sanjeev Kumar to take “illegal gratification” of Rs 7 lakh from Gupta for favours returned to him. — PTI
