Jind, May 20
Five members of a family, including three women, were shot dead in the district today. The victims are Raghubir Singh, his wife Harnandi, daughter Sushila, son Naresh and the later’s wife Krishna. Raghubir Singh, Naresh and Krishna were shot dead at Khunga village in the district while Harnandi and Sudhila were murdered in the local Om Nagar Colony.

According to reports, four motor cycle-borne assailants first killed Harnandi and Sushila and later went to Khunga village and killed Raghubir Singh, Naresh and Krishna. All of them died on the spot. The assailants reportedly shot them with country-made pistols and fled.

According to Mr Manjit Singh Ahlawat, Superintendent of Police, Jind, four youths had raped a girl of Raghubir Singh’s family at Khunga village about a year and a half ago. He said the police had registered a case against Parveen, Prem and two others in this connection. He said while Parveen was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, the remaining three were acquitted by the court. He said an appeal was filed in the High Court against the judgement of the lower court, in which the High Court issued warrants against Prem and the others. Prem was arrested in this case and was later released on bail. He said Prem and the others shot dead the five members today.

The police has registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC and under the Arms Act. No arrest has been made so far.
