We’re demoralised, Sheila rues Sonia’s decision

Regretting INC president Sonia Gandhi’s decision not to accept prime ministership, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said it would have a demoralising effect on the party. “We are heartbroken. We are demoralised,” Dikshit, considered a confidante of Gandhi, said amid efforts by the senior party leaders to persuade the INC president to reconsider her stand.

A Delhi businessman Javed Alam, who had come for a swim in the Mussori Ganga Canal along with his 11 friends, was strangled. Later, acid was thrown on his face, chest and stomach so that he could not be identified.

Two robbed of Rs 80,000
Sonepat: Five unidentified armed persons are reported to have looted Rs 80,000 from two persons, Raghubir and his relative Howa Singh, while they were going on a motorcycle from Malikpur village in Sonepat district to Karnal last night.

Chautala to meet INLD workers today

HPCC issues show-cause notices to 22 leaders
Sonepat, May 19
The Disciplinary Committee of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has issued show-cause notices to at least 22 office-bearers and leaders of the party, asking them to explain within 15 days why they should not be placed under suspension for opposing the official party nominee, Mr Dharampal Singh Malik, who lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Sonepat parliamentary constituency.

Eight get life term for murder
Bhiwani, May 19
The Additional Sessions Judge, Bhiwani, Mr Kuldip Jain, sentenced eight persons to life imprisonment under sections 302,307,449 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code for murdering one Bani Singh. While one person was acquitted and another convict Naseeb was released considering juvenile on probation.
