Hoshiarpur
COP BOOKED: The Hariana police of the district has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Assistant Sub-Inspector, Bakhshish Singh, in charge Bhunga police chowki for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 50,000. The cop allegedly took the bribe for not registering a case against a woman accused and smuggling poppy husk.

LUDHIANA
INTERACTION: Students of USPC Jain Public School got a chance to interact with Anne Liesse Smillie, Education Director of the Animal Asia Foundation (AAF), Hong Kong. Dr Scynthia Smillie, a veterinarian, accompanied the Education Director. Dr Sandeep K. Jain, president of the People for Animals (PFA), Ludhiana, and Mr Radhey Shyam Jain, a member of the PFA, also graced the occasion. Anne Liesse spoke about the Animal Asia Foundation and its activities. She gave away prizes to the winners of a competition held on April 30.

MC PROJECT: The Municipal Corporation has taken up a project for laying storm water sewerage in Industrial Area ‘B’ locality in Miller Ganj under Ward No. 56 here on Sunday. The area councillor, Ms Malkiat Kaur, laid the foundation stone for the project. She said the project would cost around Rs 8 lakh. Among those present were Mr Jatinder Singh Mikki, Mr Manjit Singh Virdi, Mr Avtar Singh, Mr Madan Lal, Mr Jaswant Singh, Mr Vijay Kumar, Mr Prabjit Singh, Mr Gurdip Singh Sidhu, Mr Rakesh Gupta, Dr Ajit Singh and Mr Harmit Danewalia.

COUNSELLING: A counselling session was organised at BCM School, Basant Avenue, Dugri, for parents of kindergarten students here on Sunday. Basic problems that parents faced were talked about. Dr Vandna Shahi, Principal of the school, spoke on the importance of the workshop. Ms Manmeet Grewal, a child psychologist, delivered a lecture on parenting. Enid Habil, a dietician from CMC, Ludhiana, spoke on good eating habits and eating problems of kids. She also gave lists of dietary items for the kids of different age groups.

MEETING: A meeting of interior designers was held at 278, Phase II, Dugri, on Sunday. Mr Sunil Chadha, Vastu-Feng Shui consultant and Reiki expert, spoke on the selection of furniture and its placement in the soon.

CONTEST: An on-the-spot painting competition for school students was organised the GETIT Yellow Pages here on Saturday at the GGN Khalsa College for Boys. Over 1,000 students in the age group of 9 to 15 years participated in the contest. The students were given a choice of three themes for the contest. The winners were given awards of Rs 7,500, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500, respectively. Antarpreet’s painting (Guru Nanak International Public School) fetched her the first prize. It will appear on the cover of Yellow Pages. The second prize went to Gaurav Uppal of DAV Public School, while the third prize was won by Kirandeep of GNIPS. Kamalpreet of GNIPS and Jasleen Kaur of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School were given consolation prizes. Ms Rekha Arora, Ms Nona Khanna and Ms Manmeet Grewal were the judges.

AWARENESS CAMP: As many as 275 patients were examined at an awareness camp organised by Mukat Hospital and Heart Institute, Sector 34, for diabetes and other (medical problems under the guidance of Dr S.K. Mathur, diabetologist and endocrinologist, and Dr Gurpreet Bhatia, medical specialist and rheumatologist. Diabetic neuropathy examination was done with a special instrument called vibration perception meter. An audio-visual demonstration was also given to the patients about diabetes. 

EXHIBITION: ‘Arabeque’ an art and craft exhibition, was held at St Stephen’s Preparatory School. The venue of the exhibition was tastefully decorated, displaying a wide range of art and craft work. At the exhibition, teaching aids were also displayed.

PANCHKULA
POOL PARTY: Doon Public School, Sector 21, here organised a pool party for tiny tots on Saturday. The students played various games like fill the bucket and catch the fish. A beach party was also organised, a press note said. 

TALENT HUNT: A talent hunt to mark Mother’s Day was organised at MRA Modern Public School, Sector 7, here on Saturday. Sanjay(nursery),Kapil(KG)and Surbhi Chohan(Class I) were awarded the first prizes in different categories.

Ambala
COMPETITION: GMN Public School held a fancy dress competition here on Friday. The school Principal, Ms Daman Virdi, said students from different classes were given themes like birds, animals, national heroes and professionals. Ms Sood, Mr K. J. Balhaya, Ms Karen Balhaya and Ms Rachna Malhotra adjudged the winners. Ms Virdi said the school would hold a summer camp from Monday for children in the age group of 4-15 years on the school premises. Hobby classes would be held.

Kurukshetra
SENTENCED: A court here on Saturday sentenced Jasbir Singh of Sujra village in Uttar Pradesh to six months’ imprisonment and fined rupees 10,000 for smuggling poppy husk and twenty kg poppy husk was recovered from the possession of the car occupant, Jasbir Singh during search operation. The police had booked Jasbir Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act after 20 kg of poppy husk was recovered from him.

Yamunanagar
DISTRIBUTED: The Rotary Club Jagadhri and Yamunanagar distributed free of cost stationery among the students of D.A.V. High School, Kansapur in Yamunanagar on Friday.

Liquor seized
: The police here on Friday night seized 100 cartons of liquor from a vehicle. The liquor was being carried without permit or licence. Chaman Lal was arrested under the Excise Act.

Kangra
YOGA CAMP: A yoga camp was inaugurated by the Vivekananda Kendra on Saturday. The camp will conclude on May 23. A meditation camp for men and women in Geeta Bhavan was also started. Yoga expert from Kanyakumari Ravi Sharma will hold yoga classes free of cost.
