SAD leader booked for defrauding mother-in-law
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 16
An SAD leader has been booked under Sections 420, 406, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC for allegedly defrauding her mother-in-law, who is a widow. After exhausting all avenues to get justice, the woman has approached the state police chief seeking justice.

Action sought for discrepancies in voters’ list

In the wake of massive discrepancies in the electoral rolls with thousands of names of bonafide voters missing from voters’ lists, several bodies including consumer rights groups, have demanded strict action against district officials concerned who were responsible for the preparation and updating of voters’ lists in the district.

The suicide by a sacked worker of the Hero Group here has come as a shock to the entire industrial work force that feels that the indifferent government and repressive employers, who had allegedly thrown thousands of workers out of work during the past two months, were responsible for the death.

Goods worth Rs 60,000 stolen
Khanna, May 16
Goods worth Rs 60,000 were allegedly stolen by a couple from a house in Guru Teg Bahadar Nagar. According to a complaint lodged by the owner of the house, a couple had taken on rent an accommodation in his house 10 days ago. The owner’s family went out of town on Friday morning to attend a function.

Two booked for fraud
Ludhiana, May 16
The Division Number 3 police on Friday registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC on the statement of Mr Sham Sunder, a Gur Mandi-based trader, against Rajiv Puri, alleging that the latter had fraudulently used his sales tax number and was also producing fake goods in his firm’s name.

Road show organised
Ludhiana, May 16
Airtel organised a road show titled “Express Yourself” in Sarabha Nagar here yesterday. The young as well as the old danced to foot-tapping numbers. A dance troop “The Dazzle” also set the mood of the crowd by performing energetically. The show lasted for three hours. The participants of different games were awarded prizes.

Hundreds of students who appeared for the MA/MSc 2nd year mathematics paper of “Differential Geometry” on April 20, conducted by Panjab University, have threatened to start a relay fast if the paper is not conducted again soon.

College alumni meeting held
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 16
A meeting of the alumni of Government College Karamsar was organised on the college premises, which was attended by a large number of old students. According to Ms Vijya Sethi, Principal of the college, advocates, panches, sarpanches and leaders of many social organisations showed a keen interest in the development of various faculties of the college.

CIIS to offer dual degree option

The Canadian Institute for International Studies (CIIS), an affiliate of Georgian College, Canada, which is conducting study programmes in computer science and automotive studies has launched a programme offering dual degree from a Canadian and an Indian University at the same time.

Homoeopathic chemists seek directorate
Ludhiana, May 16
The Northern Indian Chemist Association has demanded a separate directorate for homoeopathy for the upliftment of this system of medicine. This resolution was passed in the annual general house meeting of the association held on the premises of Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital here today.

Adhiraj rules the pool
Ludhiana, May 16
Adhiraj Sharma, a student of Class V of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, hogged the limelight by adding four more gold medals to his kitty in the boy’s group IV in the Ludhiana District Swimming Championship for the sub-junior and junior boys and girls, which concluded here today. Yesterday Adhiraj had bagged one gold and one silver medal. Today, he continued with his sterling performance, clinching four gold medals (50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 50 m breaststroke and 50 m butterfly). Another lad, who drew attention in the meet, was Bikramjeet Singh, a student of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Udham Singh Nagar.
