112 Pak judges resign

Islamabad, May 15
In an unprecedented move, 112 judges and magistrates in Pakistan’s Punjab province have resigned en masse following growing confrontation with lawyers.

The mass resignation of judges followed after a group of lawyers reportedly stormed into the office of Sessions Judge Mohammad Khalil Chaudhry and damaged his official car in Lahore yesterday. They also reportedly ransacked offices of the courts’ clerks.

This was the first time in the legal history of Pakistan that the entire administration of subordinate judiciary in a major city like Lahore collapsed. — PTI
