Countermand poll in Chapra, Ghazipur: BJP

New Delhi, April 27
The BJP today demanded countermanding of polls in Chapra in Bihar and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh as they witnessed large-scale violence and alleged mis-use of official machinery by the ruling parties in the states.

A delegation of BJP leader today met the Election Commission officials to submit a memorandum demanding the countermanding of the poll in these constituencies and transfer of District Magistrate in these two seats for acting in favour of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party respectively in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.— TNS

Repoll in five states today

New Delhi, April 27
The Election Commission today ordered repoll in 149 polling stations in five states. The repoll will be held tomorrow between 7 am and 5 pm.

Repolling will be held in 93 polling booths in Andhra Pradesh, 25 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 each in Assam and Karnataka and three in Manipur.

The decision on repolling in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Maharashtra will be taken tonight or tomorrow.

The commission has decided that no repoll will be ordered in Goa and Jammu and Kashmir as it found reports of returning officers satisfactory.

In Andhra Pradesh, there will be repoll in 93 booths spread over 15 Lok Sabha constituencies. The order has been made considering either the damage to the electronic voting machines or their snatching away by miscreants.

Officials face action for calling on Advani

Bhopal, April 27
The Election Commission has sought explanation from officials who had called on Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani at Bhopal airport yesterday.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr T.S. Krishnamurthy, told a press conference here this afternoon that action would be considered after receiving their replies. — OC
