Curfew in Ujjain

Ujjain, February 22
Curfew continued in parts of Ujjain district today following a communal dispute last night during the ongoing encroachment drive for the Simhasta Mahakumbh in April this year.

Earlier, the police used teargas and mild lathicharge to disperse two groups which clashed and threw stones at each other on the issue of removal of encroachments outside a religious site.

Ten persons, including Inspector General of Police of Ujjain Range Sarabjeet Singh, were injured in the stone pelting.

Ujjain District Collector Rajesh Rajora said following communal tension curfew was imposed in seven sensitive police station areas and prohibitory orders were enforced in the remaining parts of the city. Mr Rajora said 57 persons had been arrested till last night. No untoward incident had been reported so far and the situation was under control. — UNI
