booked for graft Patiala, January 29 According to the FIR registered at the Vigilance police station here, he tampered with records of the 95 per cent grant given to the college during his tenure. The FIR also states that the institute received Rs 14 lakh during his tenure under the Prime Minister Rozgar Yogna. It adds that this money was not deposited in the State Bank of Patiala in which the institute maintains its accounts. The complaint against the former Director also states that he committed irregularities in appointments during his tenure. He is also accused of committing irregularities in the amalgamated funds of the employees. A case under Sections 409, 464, 467 and 471 of the IPC and of the Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered against Dr Kapoor. Patiala Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Balkar Singh Sidhu said the FIR had been registered earlier this month. Investigations were on in the case and the Vigilance Department had seized certain records pertaining to the case. He, however, declined to specify which record had been seized in the case. Dr Kapoor, who took over as head of the Thapar Research Centre after his retirement as Director of the Thapar Engineering Institute, had recently joined as Director of the College of Engineering opened by Punjabi University this year. Dr Kapoor could not be reached for his comment on the issue as he was away to Kanpur, according to Punjabi University Engineering College sources. |
