Surjewala, Jakhar assail NDA policies

New Delhi, January 29
Thousands of activists of the Indian Youth Congress and the All-India Kisan Congress held a demonstration near the Parliament House in protest against the “anti-farmer” policies of the NDA government.

Addressing the ‘Kisan Naujawan Mahapanchayat’, Kisan Congress chief Balram Jakhar and IYC chief Randeep Singh Surjewala called upon farmers and youth to defeat the BJP and its allies in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

He said the NDA government had “sold the interests of small and marginal farmers to corporate houses”. He said the “so-called package” for farmers, announced recently by the BJP-led government, was an attempt to hoodwink the community.

Mr Surjewala said as part of its LPG (liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation) policy, the BJP had abdicated the “real economy” comprising employment and agriculture. “Tiller of the land and sons of soil have been left at the mercy of market forces,” he said.

Describing BJP’s “feel good” as “fail good”, he said unemployment had risen in the past five years and the NDA rule had been marked by “scams”.

The gathering was also addressed by senior Congress leaders, including Ahmed Patel, Moti Lal Vora and Oscar Fernandes.
