Celebrations
: Republic Day was celebrated here at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, where Mr Jagjit Singh, Minister for Local Bodies, Labour and Employment, unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute from contingents of the BSF, CRPF, police, Home Guards and NCC. Mr Jagjit Singh said the Punjabis have always remained on the forefront in sacrificing their lives for the sake of the country.

LUDHIANA
BOOK EXHIBITION: As many as 22 stalls of books were on display at a three-day book exhibition inugurated in the library of Punjab Agricultural University here on Tuesday. Book sellers from New Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttaranchal and Chandigarh exhibited the books. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor.

COMPETITION: The 21st PNB Inter-Region Competition concluded here on Tuesday. Mr U.S. Bhargava, General Manager, Punjab National Bank, Punjab Zone, was chief guest. The Kapurthala region won the overall trophy Mr Prem Snehi from the Bathinda region was declared best actor of the zone. 

PHILLAUR
FUNCTION: An annual prize distribution function of Des Raj Vedhera DAV College, Phillaur, was organised on the college campus on Tuesday. The Additional Director-General of Police, PAP, Mr D.R. Bhatti, presided over the function. Congress MP from Phillaur Parliamentary Constituency Santosh Chaudhry was the chief guest. Ms Chaudhry honoured 110 meritorious students, 114 NSS students and eight students for achievements in sports. College Principal A.K. Vaid read the annual report and highlighted achievements of the college.

SAMRALA
CHEQUES GIVEN: Mr Gurcharan Singh Ghalib, MP, handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Ms Daljeet Kaur, Sarpanch, Kakrala Kalan, on Monday for the development of lanes and announced Rs 2 Lakh for the construction of a dharamshala. He also gave cheques for Rs 1 lakh each to the sarpanches of Shamspur Singhan, Raipur, Chandiala and Nanowal Kalan.

TARN TARAN
Rs 50,000 LOOTED: Two Hero Honda borne youths looted Rs 50,000 from two persons at pistol point near Shahabpur village on Monday. They were going back to Amritsar after collecting money from shopkeepers of Patti. One person was injured in the incident. The police has registered a case.

SEMINAR: A seminar on “stocks and shares” was organised here by the Vikson Finance and Investment Pvt. Ltd. Mr Mayur Shah, a technical analyst from Mumbai, made the keynote presentation on this occasion. Speaking about the volatile situation in the stock market, he said, “ If the Sensex does not breach the previous top of 6249 within a fortnight, the probability of Sensex crashing down to 4500 cannot be ruled out because of the forthcoming political and economic reasons,”

REVENUE OFFICIAL DEAD: A revenue official was charred to death when a fire broke out while he was asleep in his house in Gandhi Nagar area of Ganaur town, the police said on Tuesday. — PTI

HIMACHAL PRADESH

DHARAMSALA
ONE HELD: The police on a tip off arrested Atma Rama, a shopkeeper, and recovered 200 gm of charas and 90 gm of ganja from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. In another case, the police has registered a case against Mangeri Lal, alias Neeta, a resident of Jagotha, under the Jawalamukhi police station for damaging a liquor shop at Badoli and for threatening salesman Subhash Chand.

UNA
E-Kiosk INSTALLED: Under-E-governance system, an e-kiosk, one touch screen, has been installed on the premises of Mini Secretariat which started functioning from Tuesday. The kiosk was inaugurated by Mr Arvind Kaul, Chief Secretary Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday. Mr Rajneesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Una said all information pertaining to driving licences, registration certificates of vehicles and information about passport would be made available to the individual after passing given number in the e-kiosk. Voter lists of all five constituencies of Una district will also be available to the public. He said list of blood donors with available blood group with names and addresses has also been made available.
