Celebrations: Republic Day was celebrated here at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, where Mr Jagjit Singh, Minister for Local Bodies, Labour and Employment, unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute from contingents of the BSF, CRPF, police, Home Guards and NCC. Mr Jagjit Singh said the Punjabis have always remained on the forefront in sacrificing their lives for the sake of the country.

BOOK EXHIBITION: As many as 22 stalls of books were on display at a three-day book exhibition inugurated in the library of Punjab Agricultural University here on Tuesday. K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor.COMPETITION: The 21st PNB Inter-Region Competition concluded here on Tuesday. Mr U.S. Bhargava, General Manager, Punjab National Bank, Punjab Zone, was chief guest. The Kapurthala region won the overall trophy Mr Prem Snehi from the Bathinda region was declared best actor of the zone.

FUNCTION: An annual prize distribution function of Des Raj Vedhera DAV College, Phillaur, was organised on the college campus on Tuesday. The Additional Director-General of Police, PAP, Mr
D.R. Bhatti, presided over the function. Congress MP from Phillaur Parliamentary Constituency Santosh Chaudhry was the chief guest. Ms Chaudhry honoured 110 meritorious students, 114 NSS students and eight students for achievements in sports. College Principal

Rs 50,000 LOOTED: Two Hero Honda borne youths looted Rs 50,000 from two persons at pistol point near Shahabpur village on Monday. They were going back to Amritsar after collecting money from shopkeepers of Patti. One person was injured in the incident. The police has registered a case.
