Patwari burnt to death in sleep

Mr Rohtas, a patwari was burnt to death in sleep at Gandhi Nagar in Ganaur town, 16 km from here last night. According to a report, the victim who belonged to Bajana Khurd, had been living along with his family. The cause of the fire was not known and the police had sent the body for the postmortem examination.

The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will stage a dharna outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Thursday. In a statement issued here today, the DUTA president, Dr Aditya Narayan Misra, has said that the dharna will be organised to protest against the UGC’s proposed Model Act and “irregular and anti-academic functioning of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deepak Nayyar”.

With the arrest of one Bhim Singh, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a network of liquor smuggling and seized a large number of bottles from Tilak Nagar. It was a dry day yesterday due to the Republic Day.

ICD implantation: Glad tidings for heart patients 
Faridabad, January 27
Here is good news for heart patients of the region. The Metro Heart Institute here, which had been empanelled by the State government for its staff recently, has succeeded in implanting an ICD (Implantable cardio verter decibilator) in a patient, who had a very fast heart beat and ran the risk of sudden death.

Punjab Police enter semi-final
New Delhi, January 27
Punjab Police edged past Army XI 1-0 to enter the semi-final of the DDA Prize Money Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here today. Gurjan Singh scored the match-winner in the 53rd minute. Army XI also entered the semi-final by finishing second in Group B.

Nehru Stadium win judo title
