Amritsar’s first electric train flagged off

Amritsar, January 27
The Union Minister for Railways, Mr Nitish Kumar, flagged off the first electric train from here on Republic Day yesterday. Showing the green flag to the Amritsar-Moori Express at about 7.45 p.m. the Union Minister announced that a new daily inter-city electric train between Chandigarh and Amritsar would become operational soon.

The minister stated that 12 more electric trains would be introduced. These include Shaheed Express, Shatabdi Express, Shan-e-Punjab, Paschim Express, Intercity Moori, Swaraj Express, Barauni Express, Ambala-Amritsar. All these would be plying daily while Sachkhand Express would run five time a week. He refused to comment on the starting of the Amritsar-Hardwar Express.

State vice-president of the BJP unit Laxmi Kanta Chawla, MP R.L. Bhatia, Minister of State for Education, and Prof Darbari Lal were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the scheduled press conference in this regard was not held.
