Shimla/Srinagar, January 24
A Nepalese woman and one more person were killed and five others injured due to heavy snowfall in three separate incidents in the district last night. Reports reaching here said a Nepalese woman, identified as Keshu Punn, was buried under the snow near Totopani near Khadrala. She died as a result of this incident.

In another incident, a jeep skidded off the road that was covered with snow near Bhavanagar in the Rampur subdivision of the district. The victim D.C. Bhatnagar was killed while his driver Sardari Lal was injured.

Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under severe cold as the higher areas, particularly the tribal belt, continued to experience snow for the fourth consecutive day today.

Shimla city recorded 6 cm of snow overnight even as the weather cleared in the morning. People in many areas had to go without water as pipes froze in the subzero temperature. The upper Shimla areas and Kinnaur district remained cut off for the second day as the Hindustan-Tibet highway and various other roads in the region were still blocked due to heavy snow. Rohru, Narkanda, Thanedar, Chopal, Jubbal-Kotkhai and other areas had to go without newspapers and other essential supplies. The Kufri -Chail road also remained blocked.

The Kinnaur and Rampur bound traffic was diverted via Dhami and Basantpur. However, vehicles could ply only up to Tapri and the upper Kinnaur remained out of bounds. Kulu town received snowfall after a gap of nearly 10 years while Dalhousie in Chamba district received intermittent heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours.
