New Delhi, January 24
Punjabi writer Amrita Pritam, former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachaliah and astrophysicist Jayant Vishnu Narlikar would be awarded the Padma Vibhushan this year.
According to a list of awardees forwarded by the government to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, 20 prominent personalities, including lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar, agricultural scientist S.S. Johl, and violinist N. Rajam, would be awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly, his deputy Rahul Dravid and athlete Anju Bobby George, who won a gold and a silver at Busan Asiad in 2002, are among the 60 Padma Shree awardees.
Among others who will be awarded the Padma Shree are journalist M.V. Kamath, writers Vishnu Prabhakar and Manoranjan Dash and musician Bharatiraja.
