Srinagar was lashed by 11.9 mm rains while Jammu received a heavy downpour at 30.4 mm.

SHIMLA: Snowfall continues to elude the ‘Queen of the Hills’ in the new year though rain and sleet hit the capital hill resort today. However, fresh snowfall was reported from the hill resorts of Kufri, Narkanda and Khadapatar, as well as in the tribal regions. Narkanda recorded six inches of snow.

According to reports reaching here, Manali had a mild snowfall last night while there was a heavy snowfall at the Rohtang Pass and the peaks surrounding the picturesque Manali valley. The higher reaches of the magnificent Dhauldhar ranges over-looking the Kangra valley also reported a heavy snowfall.

Reports said there was a heavy snowfall at Keylong, the capital of Lahaul and Spiti, as well as in the higher mountain peaks, including the Lady of Keylong. Kinnaur district also reported a heavy snowfall during the last 24 hours. Keylong had about one foot of snowfall since last night.

Reports said the peaks of the Pir Pangal ranges bordering Jammu and Kashmir in Chamba district also had a heavy snowfall. Fresh snowfall also occurred at the Hathu peak and the Dodra Kawar area along the Uttaranchal border.

The Hindustan-Tibet road at Lafu Ghati near Theog remained cut-off for the second successive day due to a landslide. Traffic to the sub-divisional town of Rampur in the district has been diverted via Basantpur.

Heavy rains also caused landslides between Ramsu and Ramban forcing the suspension of to and fro traffic from the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, they said.

Meanwhile, the Batote-Doda road, the Baderwah-Doda road and the Thathri-Gandoh road were also closed due to landslides following heavy rains during the past 24 hours, they said.
