Fog claims two more lives Chandigarh, December 25 Shimla recorded a low of 3.2 °C, one degree below normal, while Bhuntar and Sundernagar were cold with temperatures as low as 0.6 °C and 1.2 °C, respectively. A report from Hisar (Haryana) said two persons, including a woman, were killed and four injured in two road accidents due to dense fog on the Delhi-Hisar national highway this morning. While the woman died on the spot, four others suffered serious injuries when their jeep fell into khud after it was hit by another vehicle as foggy conditions reduced visibility in the entire region. In another accident, one person was killed when his scooter rammed into an electric pole, taking the toll in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, to 36 since the onset of foggy conditions. People in and around Amritsar district, bordering Pakistan, shivered as mercury dipped to near freezing point at 0.7 °C, four degrees below normal. The Indian Airlines and Jet Airways flights on Mumbai-Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Chandigarh routes were again cancelled today due to poor visibility. An Indian Airlines press note said owing to persistent foggy weather conditions, its flights to and from Chandigarh would remain cancelled on December 26 and 27 as well. Chandigarh saw an increase in the day temperatures with sun making an
appearance. The minimum and maximum temperatures in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas hovered around 6.6 °C and 15.5 °C. Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, reported a temperature of 5.7 °C, a drop of three degrees in minimum temperatures, while minimum temperature in Srinagar was 0.3 °C. Delhi today reported a minimum temperature of 8.4 °C, 1.4 °C above normal.
