Chennai, November 23
Union Minister and senior DMK leader Murasoli Maran died at a private hospital here this evening after prolonged illness.
He was 69. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Mr Maran’s family members were present at the bedside in the Apollo Hospital when the end came at 6.45 p.m.
Mr Maran, who was suffering from heart ailment for more than a year, had undergone a mitral valve replacement surgery at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
As he developed infection, a mitral valve replacement surgery was performed on him at the Apollo hospital here.
As his condition failed to improve, Mr Maran was flown to the Methodist Hospital in Houston, USA. However, he was brought back to India.
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has condoled the death of his Cabinet colleague Murasoli Maran, who died in Chennai on Sunday. after a prolonged illness. Mr Vajpayee said Mr Maran’s death was a personal loss for him.
The Prime Minister telephoned DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and conveyed his heartfelt condolences.
